I've been transitioning for 9 months and love to wear my hair in flat twist outs, roller sets and bantu knots!

My last relaxer was November 2011 and I am currently 5 months natural (I big chopped September 2012). I still learning what my hair does/doesn't like and its limitations. My journey has honestly been extremely eye opening for me and I have learned a great deal about myself (I initially decided to go natural because I was coming out of a difficult time in my life and really wanted to let go of the past). I always ask myself why I didn't go natural sooner but I know it wouldn't have had the same affect on me that it does now. And I live overseas (military wife) so I had to get kind of creative with some things in terms of my hair lol.

I've been transitioning since last year in july 2012. I really didn't start taking care of my hair until october so in the past i didn't know how much heat damage and how i was improperly taking care of my hair. But now im going on my 7th month of my hair journey and trying to transition to where im comfortable with cutting my hair. Even though it's a challenge dealing with both my relaxed hair and natural hair, i love my hair and it feels so much more healthier than it use to.

I was in college when I first went natural. I was surrounded by so many people with beautiful dreadlocs and I did the big chop in 99. Ok... I confess, right before that, I had a micro braid incident. Lol. I left my extensions in too long and got knots near my roots that wouldn't come out. I got frustrated and cut all my hair off. THEN, I thought about all my friends beautiful locs and decided to go for it! When I was relaxed, I never retained length. It constantly broke off. Plus, I never mastered the art of styling my relaxed hair. So unless I went to a salon, I looked a mess. When I went natural and had locs, my hair was cute EVERY DAY. 10 years passed and I got bored with it. So I did the big chop again in 09. I didn't know how to manage my 4c hair in it's loose state. So extensions were my choice for a while. I still made classic mistakes and kept damaging my hair through poor hair care. I decided to start over AGAIN 2 months ago and really take care of my hair. No more extensions!

I started my journey 2 years ago, but only starting wearing my natural curls 4 months ago. Before that I kept my hair in weaves, wigs, or braids. Currently I am trying to find my "it" products so I can get a regiment that I can stick too.

I cut my hair Nia Long short November 2011, and I haven't used a perm since. I grew it out and then cut it down to one inch August 2012. It's now 6-7 inches and I LOVE it. I've straightened it (carefully) once and I hated it. Proud to be natural!
